Curatorial Partner - Notes of Interest Invited
The Scotland and Venice partners are delighted to confirm that Scotland
will be participating at the 55th International Art Exhibition
Venice Biennale in 2013. The project is a major opportunity for Scotland
to build its international profile and reputation as a centre of excellence for
the visual arts. For the artist/s
selected Venice is a significant platform for the development and presentation
of new work.
The partners are seeking notes of interest from experienced curators
and/or visual arts organisations to work with them in delivering an ambitious
and imaginative exhibition that will run from June to November 2013. The partners are particularly interested in
achieving:
a strong critical reception to the work nationally and internationally
and a high public/press profile within Scotland and the UK.
- strong audience development/education opportunities beyond the
presentation in Venice which may include a further presentation or
re-configuration of the work within Scotland. - a coherent approach to professional development opportunities around the
2013 exhibition, strengthening links already established with Scotland’s art
colleges - a commitment to delivering the
project within agreed resources. The core
budget is made up of cash and in-kind contributions from the Scotland and
Venice partnership. Extending this core
budget is an aspiration of the partners who will explore a number of ideas/
avenues including any that are brought forward by the curator/s appointed.
Further background to the project
can be provided on request.
Whether submitting notes of
interest as an independent curator, an arts organisation or jointly, we would
ask for supporting documentation to accompany any note of interest. We will be looking for a partner that has
experience of delivering ambitious projects of national / international
significance. Notes of interest need to
outline an approach that will address the key objectives of the project as
outlined above. In addition it will be
important for us to understand how Scotland and Venice 2013 would be
accommodated alongside any existing work /project commitments during 2012/13.
A shortlist will be drawn up from
the notes of interest and we will invite people to interview in early May.
All notes of interest should be emailed
by 5 pm on 27th April 2012 to:
